Start Working For Your Dream Job Now - Or Else You Might Just End Up Leading an Unhappy Existence

By Lisa M. Jones
Going by the statistics, almost 66% of the working population in US is dissatisfied with their jobs. It'll be no understatement that those are astounding figures. Moreover, considering the fact that our jobs affect our daily lives significantly, we could very well call ourselves an unhappy nation! You have two options, either you can go on living an inanimate existence like usual, or you can start pulling up your socks right at this moment and begin your search for your dream job.
I spent dog years working as an accountant in a small time firm and would humbly admit that I was indeed a part of that 66% group. I tried my best to stick it out for as long as I could, but eventually gave in when I was pushed against the wall. I was deep down in the pits and the only way out was up. So I thought that if it had to be a struggle anyway, why not push for my long-cherished dream job. Eventually I made it and here's how you can as well:

Visualize your dream job: Imagine what would you love doing the most if the world was not dependent on money. What would it be if you only had to pick and choose anything that you wanted to do? Be specific when visualizing your dream job. How does your office look? What are your co-workers like? How much you draw at the end of every month? How does the company treat you? The better you are able to visualize your dream job, the better and well-directed your efforts will become to land one. What more, you'll observe that even the people in your environment will start pushing and helping you in that direction.
Admit that you are not in the right place: Many times due to our own tendencies, we run away from the truth that the place we're working in is not cut-out for us. Accept and acknowledge that you are not happy being where you are right now. Make a list of all things that are making you unhappy in your present job or career.
Assess your strengths, weaknesses and skills: Sometimes this exercise alone can strip the present situation down to its ugly, naked truth. Once you figure out what your strengths, weaknesses and skills are, you'll better judge whether your present occupation is doing justice to them or not. You can even seek help from your friends or career coaches. Many times we're so pre-occupied with our problems that we aren't able to objectively look and appreciate our strengths.
Act!: If after performing the above mentioned tasks you discover that your present job is really not your dream job. And there is no way that you can bridge the gap either; you better start taking concrete action from that moment itself. If you find yourself in a wrong career altogether, find out what all steps you can take to make a switch. Would you require professional training in an alternate career? Can you leverage your present sources to make a smooth transition into your dream job?
Whatever you do, but don't be indifferent to your present circumstance. Your dream job might just be some steps away. Steps so simple that you never bothered to take them all these years!
