Stay Ahead of Competition in Our Economy

Stay Ahead of Competition in Our Economy

By David T Wang
What is more depressing than hearing that a loved one is laid off? Getting laid off yourself. With our current economic state, there is nothing worse than have to worry about job security every morning you wake up. Having one or two skills is just not enough. If you look at any job listing, you will find a list of skill requirements longer than a marathon route. Having multiple skills is basically a prerequisite to even be considered for a position. As a working professional, who has time to enroll in a community college or classes that take four to six months to complete and paying hundreds and thousands dollars, not including gas.

With the bursting popularity of the internet and the technological era, there are many ways to learn online and sometimes for free. What we have to do as individuals is to be more self motivated and at the same time smart about how we learn. Yes there are millions of tutorial sites out there that can teach you anything and everything you want to learn, but are those sites reliable? From my personal experience, I have found that the 'free' tutorial or learning sites are usually put together by a student or self proclaimed expert teaching in their parents' garage while the dog is barking in the background. Most of the time, I end up more confused than I first started. Are these the types of people you would want to learn from? I did not think so.

How do you know if an online learning site is the right one for you? First of all, what you want is to search for a site that offers quality and professional training in the skill you want to learn. So you must be specific when you search for the topic that you want. Secondly, the site must look professional, not distracting and have a preview of the course before you invest your hard earned money into it.

Lastly, any course you take is only as good as what you put into it. After the course, research more information about that topic to reinforce what you learned earlier. Reinforcement is the key.
After you read this, go learn a skill, because you never know when you will need it.
